About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Stockholm - Guangzhou - Hongkong - Stockholm

Hi! If i want to travel from stockholm to guangzhou and stay there a few days and then take the train to hongkong, stay there a few days and take the airplane back to stockholm. Is it possible to do without a visa? Can i apply for the 144h travel pass and what do i need? Do you get the pass on the guangzhou airport?

It's possible, but you cannot take the high-speed train. You must also have a confirmed train ticket to Hong Kong to show when you check-in for your flight in Stockholm.

Thanks for the answer! So which train can i take? You mean that i need to book the train ticket in advance and show at the swedish airport? And where do i get the transit visa, guangzhou airport?

You have to take a so called Guangzhou–Kowloon through train that departs from Guangzhou East railway station and arrives at Hung Hom railway station in Hong Kong. This is the only eligible train. You have perfectly understood that you will need the train ticket bough online in advance and I suggest you to book it on this very website because like this you will get an e-confirmation with your name and the number of your passport on it. Keep in mind that you will have to collect the real paper ticket in Grand Palace hotel in Gunagzhou and present your credit card you have bough your train ticket with.

Thank you! So if I would to fly from stockholm, cross land in Paris(or Phuket) - Guangzhou would that be ok?

And last of all, i did not get the grand palace hotel thing, it says tickets to HK cant be collected at the railway station, do i need to choose the personal deliver option?

Two more details...

You will never get the transit visa because you will travel visa free. You will state at the airport in Sweden that you will fly using 144 hour visa free transit and will present them your tickets in hard copy. They will let you board the plane. After you exit the plane, you will approach the 144 hour visa free counter, fill out the form and present your tickets. After that, you will get a sticker in your passport and will exit the airport. That's it.

By the way, be very careful with your itinerary because, as far as I know, there are no direct flights between Sweden and Guangzhou and to be eligible for 144 hour visa free transit, you are not allowed to have any additional landing within mainland China!

Yes, the entire itinerary like you have mentioned and that looks like this one:

Stockholm - Paris or Phuket - Guangzhou - Hong Kong - Stockholm

Is eligible for 144 hour visa free transit in Guangdong province. I had to tell you about the detail that there are no direct plane connections between Stockholm and Guangzhou because I was afraid that you will take some flight that has additional landings within mainland China and that is not allowed.

Regarding the Grand Palace hotel in Guangzhou, this this is the collection point for all those who book their tickets online for the Guangzhou–Kowloon through train. In the lobby of the hotel, there is the counter where those who have bought their tickets online arrive and present their e-confirmations and credit cards and receive their real paper ticket for boarding the train. Anyway, I realize that on Travel China Guide website, they have adopted the method of delivering the ticket on the address of your hotel for a fee of 12 USD. Well, basically, this increases the price of the ticket for 12 USD, but in the same time you don't have to go in Grand Palace hotel because the ticket will wait for you in your accommodation. Of course, you don't need to present anything, but your passport and probably your e-confirmation that you will have to print it out for 144 hour visa free transit purposes and your ticket will be handed to you. It is fine to pay through your Paypal account.

Please, keep in mind that it is essential that you book your ticket at least 6 days ahead before your intended date of travel from Guangzhou to Hong Kong.
