About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

The stay in China does not exceed 24hrs

Hi, U.S citizen going to Cambodia or Vietnam with layover in SZX and XMN. The stay in China does not exceed 24hrs
I have several questions:
1) Will I need a visa since its multiple cities in china?
2) Can I leave the airport in XMN?
3) If I chose a different flight with with a longer layover in XMN would I qualify for the 72 hour visa?

You should be able to leave the airport but its always up to immigration discretion. With two stops, you are limited to a total of 24 hours including internal flights and ground time. If you want to spend more time in XMN you need to change your flights so that XMN is the only city your flights will land in then you can have the 144 hour transit in Xiamen
