About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

15 minutes exceed 144-hours

hi helper, I will arrive at Shanghai (from Sydney Australia) on 19:10, 15th June, and departure for Paris (France) on 0:15, 22nd June. I haven't heard about 144-hours transition until now, and the ticket has already been purchased. Now I would like to know if I can still enjoy 144-hours free transit at Shanghai? (People say that I can call Shanghai airport to get confirmation) If not, I have to go get a China VISA now. Please advise and thank you for your time in advance. Ivan

You need a visa. Your 144 hours will finish at 23:59 on 21st June. If you don't have a visa you will be denied boarding in Sydney.

Even though I would have exited Shanghai custom and boarded the flight to Paris by 23:59 on 21st June? Thanks. Ivan

The time that counts is the scheduled departure time, not your actual time of clearing immigration. Your scheduled departure time is 15 minutes past the deadline, so you need a visa or will be refused travel by the airline or be refused admission to the country. I doubt getting a visa can be more expensive than changing your flight and it sounds like you are ready to get one anyway.
