Can I use the 144-Hour Visa-Free Transit in China

I am looking to travel to Beijing from Vancouver, Canada.
Can I use the 144-Hour Visa-Free Transit in China if I am going from:
Vancouver to Hong Kong to Beijing to Vancouver?

Just make sure your Beijing to Vancouver flight is non-stop and in particular does not go via Hong Kong.
