About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Am I able to fly HKG - Guilin with an onward flight ticket to Kuala Lumpa, and then not use KL part.

Am I able to enter on the basis of an onward flight to KL, but then change my mind and take a flight back to HKG?

This would be cheaper and easier than getting a visa, as the single flight to KL is under US$100.

When you fly back to HK from Guilin, you'll stay illegal in China.

No, you will find yourself in all kinds of trouble with the authorities when you attempt to check in for the Hong Kong flight. Short story, do not try it, you don't want to know what the long story is.
