About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

FUK-PEK-ZRH via DLC

Hi there

i booked a flight from FUK/Japan to PEK/China and now I am seeing that i am making a transit in DLC. I wanted to use the 144 hours visa-free offer (Thursday - Sunday) in PEK - do i get problems in DLC? What is this for a transit stop ?Thanks

Tom

You need a visa or different flights. Two stops in China immediately limits you to 24 hours visa-free.

Hi Saul. Thanks a lot for helping out.

Do you think there is a difference between a trip which is operated with one flight number and a trip which is operated with two flight numbers and two different aircrafts? My booking shows just one flight number for FUK-PEK - the flight is splitted into FUK-PEK-DLC (55 min stop in DLC ). both sectors are with the same flight number and the same aircraft. For my understanding a transfer flight would be Flight 123 FUK DLC and Flight 456 DLC PEK - which is not the case and the reason i took the flight. if i would have booked Flight 123 and Flight 456 i would fully agree to have a transit visa but its not the case. very strange situation . the best thing would be to contact DLC station how they treat this flight during turnaround.

Tom, Chinese visa free transit rules are very clear. One stop in China, if the citizenship and city are eligible, means 72 or 144 hours visa free transit. Two or more stops in China, practically regardless of citizenship, means 24 hours visa free transit. This is it. In case if you cannot cancel or rearrange your flights, your best option is to obtain a Chinese visa in advance.
