About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Transiting through Guilin

Hello, we will be transiting from HK back to Europe and would like to transit through Guilin. We had hoped to take High Speed train from Hong Kong to Guilin but I think that requires a visa, so we will have to fly HKG-KWL? Also, the outbound flight will be KWL-PEK-AMS. We will only stay in the airport in Beijing but of course this itinerary still starts with a domestic flight (because there are no flights from Guilin directly to Europe). Is this a problem? Thank you! (I don't mind getting visa, but I have no feasible means to, because I will be travelling with my 4 children, 2 of whom are over 14 and would have to present themselves in person to get a visa, and this is not possible on a school day.)

Mark, I have to tell you that this itinerary has not any value for you because it will not allow you to see anything of the landscape around Guilin. I'm telling you this because in case that you really want to fly HKG - KWL - PEK - AMS, you are limited to just 24 hours visa free transit. This means that you have only 24 hours between your scheduled landing in Guilin and your scheduled departure from Beijing. When we take into account all the formalities you have to perform and also the time needed to make a transfer from Guilin airport to a place where you can enjoy the landscape and back, you will be left with almost negligible available useful time. If I were you I would scrap this plan in favor of some future visit with full Chinese visa. Guilin and the area around it are not a place where you will come using visa free transit. At least not at the time being.
