About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Travelling from Sapporo (Japan) to Helsinki via Shanghai

I am the EU citizen and plan to travel to EU from Japan via Shanghai Pudong Airport. Thickets are not connected, and i will use different airlines, should i have viza if i need to collect my luggage and to make new check in for next flight? Ill have 6 hors long connection in Shanghai airport

No, you don't need a visa because you are covered by 24 hours visa free transit. Having in mind that you have separate tickets you will have to apply for 24 hours free entry permit upon your landing in Shanghai. You will present your tickets and will receive a small sticker in the passport that allows you to stay for 24 hours in Shanghai. This is absolutely free. After that, you will collect your luggage and also clear the immigration. After that, you will perform new check-in, immigration again and after that enter the airside area where you will find a gate from where your flight to EU will depart.
