About:Wuhan Tianhe Airport

International flight with stop in Wuhan, do we need to retrieve checked in luggage and rechecked in?

My flight is from San Francisco(SFO) to Ho Chi inh(SGN) with stop in Tianhe Airport (WUH).
I have read review that passenger will have to retrieve checked in luggage and go through custom and recheck in luggage.
is this information correct?
Thanks

Is you flights operated both by Southern Airlines? If yes, you need to recheck in. However, just confirm it with the check-in agent before departing.

Thank you Anna.
Yes the flight is with China Southern so I have to retrieve and recheck in the checked luggage.
Not a good process in my humble opinion. It will definitely steer away passenger.

I am a similar situation, and as I am not a Chinese citizen, would I need a visa to retrieve my baggage and recheck in?

If you transfer in mainland China less than 24 hours, then you are eligible for the 24 hour visa free transit and no visa is needed. However, you need to apply for a stay permit in the airport.
