About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Appropriate visa

We are arriving at Beijing Airport 24/09 at 00.20am and then joining a cruise ship at Beijing port for Japan on 25/09 leaving at 17.00 what Visa do I require. We are also returning to Beijing on the 30/09 at 7.00am where we have an excursion booked with the cruise line which drops us back to Beijing Airport at 4.00 PM later that day for our flight home to London 00.40am the next morning(01/10 ) what do we need for this if you could advise please

Hi Zupan thanks just want to confirm the 1st part of our trip for the 144 hours Visa we will be coming from Singapore which we will be there for 5 days and arrive at Beijing PEK Airport

Joanne, you didn't write from where will you arrive in Beijing and that is very important detail... OK, I will assume that you will arrive by a flight from a country different than both mainland China and Japan.

So, if I'm right, your first part of the itinerary is:

UK - Beijing - Japan

This itinerary is eligible if your first port call immediately after your departure from Tianjin (Beijing) is not in mainland China.

Your second part of the itinerary:

Japan - Beijing - UK

It is important that your last port call immediately before your arrival in Tianjin (Beijing) is not in mainland China. Also, your flight from Beijing to London should not have any additional landing in mainland China and in Japan.

If the above mentioned requirements are met, you are eligible for 144 hours visa free transit during your first arrival in Beijing and for 24 hours visa free transit during your second arrival in Beijing. So, you don't need any kind of visa.

Singapore is definitely OK and your itinerary looks exactly like this:

Singapore - Beijing - Japan

This is fine, but again, take care that your flight doesn't have any additional landing within mainland China.
