About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Do individual legs (part of overall trip) count

Hi all,

Totally understand the basic rule. However, one question came up. I have a group from Zurich (Switzerland) travelling to attend a meeting and then continuing to Germany. The flight would be:

Flight: Zurich - PVG (Lufthansa with stop in Frankfurt, but no immigration into Germany on this leg)
Return: PVG - Berlin (also via FRA)

Technically, it is Switzerland - China - Germany.
However, this might be stretching it. Does it?

It's considered Germany > China > Germany even if you don't leave the airport. This makes the itinerary invalid for the visa free transit. You need an itinerary that travels from Switzerland to Shanghai that does not also travel through an airport in Germany

Germany - PVG - Hong Kong - Germany.

This ahould work, am I right?

Exactly. This itinerary makes you eligible for 144 hours visa free transit in Shanghai.
