Urumqi layover 1.5 hour

I am flying from Auckland to Guangzhou, layover 3.5 hours, then Urumqi where layover is 1.5 hour, and then Vienna. Everything within 24 hours. Just one way ticket as I am leaving New Zealand. Has anybody experienced any problems with Urumqi? Is visa needed in my case? Thank you

Mario, yes, you need to get a transit visa. If you transit in Urumqi, you have to get a transit visa if you have other layovers in mainland China.

Hi Kate, thank you for your answer. Do i need a visa even if the transition time in Urumqi is below 2 hours? I will have my onward ticket to Vienna directly from Urumqi.
Whats your experience with Urumqi? Did you have any trouble? tell me details please

Mario, there is no any problem in Urumqi as your layover there is below 2 hours. The main question here is whether your entire transit through China is less than 24 hours long or not! So, in case that your transits are shorter than 24 hours, you are definitely eligible for 24 hours visa free transit; otherwise, you would need a visa obtained in advance. You can calculate your entire time by counting the hours from your first scheduled arrival in China until your last scheduled departure from China. Just do that and you will know whether you will travel visa free or you will have to obtain a visa in advance.

Hi, even if layover in Urumqi in my case might be considered a domestic to international connection since i come from Guangzhou and continue to Vienna? Or it doesnt matter? Thank you

As long as your total layover in mainland China is shorter than 24h, it doesn't matter.
