Thanks for your reply. Is there a possibility of spending a few days in China before transiting to Lhasa? What visa would I need if I were to fly UK>Chengdu (2nights)>Lhasa? How much would it cost?

Thanks

Eilidh, you can spend a few days in China before transiting to Lhasa, and you need to apply for tourist L type in advance. It cost 151 pounds for regular service.

No, you would not. Traveling via two different mainland Chinese destinations immediately limits you to 24 hours visa free transit. Anyway, in your case this is not even a transit, but a visit to China because Lhasa is your destination and not a transit point. Also, to travel to Lhasa, as well as to entire Tibet AR, you need a pre-arranged Chinese visa and pre-arranged Tibet Travel Permit.

Just one more detail... Beside the facts mentioned by Jenny, you will also have to apply, after your Chinese visa is granted, for Tibet Travel Permit through one of reputable agencies of your choice. This is essential detail to be allowed to travel to Tibet. Also, you should be aware that any travel to Tibet has to be done within the organized itinerary by the mentioned agency. There is no individual travel to Tibet AR.

Hi thank you
I will apply for a tourist visa. Just to check if I was to fly to China then Lhasa and leave Tibet into Nepal this visa should cover me? I am going into Tibet with a tour company which organised the visa.
Thanks

Yes, visa obtained in advance allows you to leave China (Tibet) in direction to Nepal by air or overland.
