About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Stopover in Beijing - Brazilian and Australian passports

Hi, I am Brazilian and my husband is Australian and we will be flying from London to Tokyo via Beijing. We would like to spend a few hours (max 24 hours) in Beijing to see some sights before heading to Tokyo. Do any of us need a visa for this? And if so, do we get one upon arrival in Beijing, or beforehand online?

If your itinerary is London - Beijing - Tokyo and there are no more landings, you are both eligible for 144 hours visa free transit in Beijing. So, not only for couple of hours, but for full 6 days without a single visa!

Upon your check-in in London, you will declare that you will use 144 hours visa free transit in Beijing. It is important that you have your tickets in hard copy and that you stay in Beijing at least for 25 hours to be eligible for 144 hours visa free transit. Upon arrival in Beijing, you will just approach the counter, fill out the blue form, present your ticket for Tokyo and after that you will get stickers in your passports. Now, you are free to explore Beijing and the very large area around it, including the Great Wall.

Basically, this is it, you don't need any kind of visa and you don't have to do anything online. Just appear at the airport and that's it.
