Praver, you should know that Chinese immigration and visa free transit rules simply ignore the residence and similar status obtained by people in different countries. They just focus on their citizenship and nothing else than that. Let's go to your question... You will transit through China covered by 24 hours visa free transit, so from that side you are free from obtaining any kind of visa. Since your layover is a long one and you would like to exit the airport and explore the city, you have two options:
- You can apply for 24 hours free entry permit (this is not a visa) upon your landing in Shanghai and see whether it will be granted or not. The longer the layover, the better are the chances to be granted a permit. Anyway, you should know that this permit is not a passenger's right because it is always issued at immigration discretion.
- You can apply in advance for a Chinese transit (G) visa and with that visa you will be definitely allowed to exit the airport. Anyway, I honestly question the logic of such a visa since the time that you can spend in the city is quite short.
Well, it's up to you to decide.
