USA Citizen Wanting 144 Hour Flying Into Shenzhen & Out of Hong Kong

Hi I'm a USA citizen that would like to fly into Shenzhen from Laos, visit for several days, travel buy land to Hong Kong, then fly out of Hong Kong to Chile. Is this permitted with the 144 hour visa? Please let me know soon as I'm looking to fly tomorrow. Thank You.

That is permitted if you hold a confirmed ticket to HK. Currently the only companies offering such are Turbojet and CKS Transport (both ferry companies). You cannot travel to HK on high-speed rail under current rules and so far no bus companies offer online booking in advance.

Just to correct myself: CKS's full name is Chu Kong ferry transport. Make sure that 1) you will be staying in Shenzhen (and the rest of the province) for more than 24 hours and 2) you must travel on the same sailing as indicated on the confirmation.

Also have your hotel reservation handy in case immigration asks.

Awesome! So I fly into Shenzhen tomorrow, and I have proof of hotel stay as well as ferry ticket out of Shekao on the 25th to HK. So that's it then, I'm good yeah?

Aaron, I know you are asking this question to John Doe, but I will answer the same because I have answered to your initial question on 72-Hour Visa-Free Transit in China thread. Maybe you didn't notice it there.

Yes, you can fly tomorrow from Laos to Shenzhen and keep in mind that you will have to declare at the check-in that you will be using 144 hours visa free transit in Shenzhen. You will also have to show an e-voucher provided by CKS - Chu Kong Passenger Transportation company for the route between Shenzhen Shekou port and Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal in Hong Kong. This ferry ticket is essential because this is the proof that you will be really in transit. Also, as John Doe has already mentioned, the time difference between your scheduled arrival by plane from Laos and your scheduled departure by ferry from Shenzhen to Hong Kong, has to be at least 25 hours.

Upon landing in Shenzhen, you will approach 144 hours visa free transit counter, fill out the blue form and after you show them your ferry ticket and accommodation booking, you will be allowed to leave the airport and stay up to 6 days, i.e. until to departure of the ferry you have bought your ticket for.

Okay great! I'm at the airport now. The airport staff hasn't heard of this Shenzhen Transit Visa yet, it's so new! But hopefully it will work out and they'll let me board the plane :-)

I am being told by Hainan Airlines that it is not possible to get Transit Visa upon arrival, even though I've showed them proof of travel. They say it is not offered at Shenzhen Airport. Please help. I'm at airport waiting to board now.

It's obvious that you have been denied the boarding and unfortunately you cannot do anything at the time being. You should have told them to look at Timatic because there it is clearly stated that Shenzhen airport supports 144 hours visa free transit. Maybe, but maybe they have misunderstood you because even in your last post you are talking about "transit visa". Of course that such a thing doesn't exist as something that can be obtained on arrival. Actually, you were supposed to ask for 144 hours visa free transit. In any case, you should definitely return today or tomorrow to the office of Hainan Airlines in Laos and be persistent in your approach and you should definitely ask for a compensation or for issuing of new tickets to Shenzhen. Again, just use the exact wording and it is 144 hours visa free transit and as your best support, you should always mention Timatic as a source of your information and your right to travel that was wrongly denied.

There is no direct flight for another week. This was handled by the airport in a terribly unprofessional way... They had a grouo WeChat and didn't even know the name of the person giving them info.

Shame on them. They were relying on some WeChat group instead on Timatic. Mildly speaking unprofessional... This is pure ignorance and I really don't understand why didn't they use Timatic where everything is explained, literally in detail. I know that all your plans are ruined, but please, just remain persistent to be at least reimbursed for the price of your ticket from Laos to Shenzhen because to receive more than that is just a dream. I just hope, you will inform us about the outcome of your entire situation. I'm so sorry and even more than that because you were entirely on legal side and you didn't ask for anything that doesn't belong to you.

Hi Zupan. I completely canceled my plans for business meetings in China, couldn't afford the time to try again. Will wait about a month or two and try again once this program becomes more kkwon to airlines. The most frustrating thing about it was my Chinese friend was at the Shenzhen airport and literally told the airport reps in Laos that I was allowed to come. They just ignored her and denied my boarding.

It's obvious that Laotians are not yet up to the expectations because it's really not so hard to use Timatic, especially when you work in aviation industry. I'm so sorry for everything that happened to you, especially because you had right to travel as planned. The only detail that now crosses my mind is that you have to continue to demand to be reimbursed and maybe to obtain a Chinese visa, especially if you plan to fly home in the meantime. The reason is simple, US citizens are entitled for 10 years multiple entry visa and in case that you intend to travel to China within the mentioned time frame, I consider that visa as a great investment. Also, you would be free from all these details and hassles.
