About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Do I need visa if i’m transiting in China but it’s not a connecting flight under the same airline?

I am holding a Malaysian passport. I intend to travel from Los Angeles to Hong Kong through Qingdao, China. But it’s not a connecting flight and instead they are two separate tickets but I’ll be in China for less than 24 hours before my flight to Hong Kong. Do I need a transit visa?

No, you don't need a visa, since all the conditions for 24 hours visa free transit are fulfilled. The circumstance of flying on different carriers and having a separate tickets is not an issue at all. Everything you will have to do is to apply for 24 hours free entry permit upon your landing in Qingdao to be able to exit the transit area, to collect your luggage and to make new check-in for your onward flight to Hong Kong.
