About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Urumqui and Shenzhen

Hello, I am from Slovakia with Slovak Citizenship. Flying from Vienna to Yangon with 2 stops with China Southern. The first is in Urumqi with a 9,3 hour layover, the next is in Shenzhen for 22 hours (I planned to visit Hong Kong). In Urumqi, do I need visa? For Zsófia you wrote, she needs double entry transit visa, but 24 hour transit visa is not allowed in Urumqi. Do you mean double entry normal visa? Is there a transit sector in Urumqi T3, I am arriving and departure from T3, to wait 9,3 hours or I need visa? And what kind? For Shenzhen I going to arrange a visa, because of Hong Kong. Thank you and best wishes, Zsuzsa

Zsuzsa, you have probably misunderstood my answer to Zsófia question. I have never written anything about "24 hour transit visa". I was answering to the situation she has and have concluded that in case that she will use Urumqi as her transit point in China also for the return flight home, that the best option would be to obtain Chinese transit (G) double entry visa in advance. i.e. in Budapest. This is transit visa that has to be obtained in advance and that particular visa allows the passengers to fulfill very rigid conditions that apply at Urumqi airport. You have probably confused transit (G) visa with 24 hours visa free transit. These are totally different things.

In your case, you definitely have to obtain transit (G) visa because your transit time in Urumqi is more than 2 hours and you will also change your flight from an international to a domestic one for Shenzhen. Now we come to your plan to visit Hong Kong during your layover in Shenzhen. This will complicate the matter even more. When you exit mainland China, this transit visa that helped you to fulfill all the conditions in Urumqi will expire. So, you need a new visa to enter mainland China again and proceed with your flight plan, i.e. from Shenzhen to Urumqi. So, to accomplish everything you have mentioned you will need a double entry transit visa, one entry for Urumqi and another one for your return to mainland China after your visit to Hong Kong. Of course, you can also apply for a Chinese double entry tourist (L) visa, but I suggest that you do it through double entry transit visa.
