About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Visa free stay when traveling on 2 separate tickets

I will fly from NYC to PEK on a roundtrip (return) ticket. Then will have a separate roundtrip (return) ticket for a different airline from PEK to ULN. Since I have to pick up luggage at PEK because the onward trip is on a different ticket and airline, will I be able to get the visa -free stay on BOTH occasions (when I arrive from NYC and then when arriving from ULN)? Thank you

Thank you ZUPAN! When last year we flew from PQC-CAN-PEK-DTW, upon arrival at CAN we stood in line for a while to get the sticker to enter China and collect our luggage.

Yes, you will. Your entire itinerary, i.e. both legs are perfectly eligible for visa free transit in Beijing. It really doesn't matter whether your tickets are round trip, single, separate, multi-city... Everything that matters is your citizenship and your itinerary. So, in case that your transits are shorter than 24 hours, you will travel covered by 24 hours TWOV and in case that you exceed 24 hours, you are eligible for 144 hours visa free transit. In any case, you can travel visa free and will be able to collect your luggage and make new check-in for your next flight. Please, just keep in mind that you will have to formally apply for entry permit upon your arrivals in Beijing to be allowed to exit the transit area. You will be granted one, don't worry.
