You can take Shuttle Bus Line 5 to the main railway station and then walk east about 260m to the hotel. The duration is around 1 hour and the bus fare is CNY 24.

You can also take Metro Line 2 from the airport to People's Square and transfer to Metro Line 1 to the main railway station. Get out of the Exit 5 and walk east about 200m to the hotel. It takes about 1h and costs about CNY10.

Thank you Emilie for your response. However, with change of dates, I will now be putting up at Seventh Heaven Hotel on 627, Nanjing East Rd, People Square & South Bund Huangpu, 200001. Could you or anybody on this site please guide me on reaching this from PVG by metro/bus. Thanks in advance.

Take Metro Line 2 to East Nanjing Road Station directly. Get out of the Exit 4 and walk southwest about 550m to the hotel. It take about 70 mins and metro fee is CNY7.

Will be traveling to Beijing and back from Shanghai. Want to economise a bit as also experience different classes of train compartments. Is it advisable to travel on 2nd class (hard seats) by overnight D train one way and take the 1st class (soft sleeper) on the other leg of the journey? Pls advise.

The hard seats are not recommended and you can change it to hard sleeper. There is no problem of the 1st class sleepers.

If I got you right Emilie, you mean one doesn't any longer need to change from 4 car to 8 car train on Metro line 2 at Guanglan Road? Will await your reply.
