X2 Student Visa Extension while in China

If I have an X2 visa to study at a private language school for 6 months, and would like to stay there for another 3 months to study, can I re-apply for another X2 visa (for the additional 3 months) while I am in China? I just talked to the school rep & he said I had to go back to the US to re-apply for the new one. I am confused because your content here stats that I should be able to do it from within China. Could you please advise?

Bsem, you can apply for X2 extension for another 3 months in local Public Security Bureau Exit and Entry Administration without leaving China. Have a try.

Thank you so much! I appreciate your time to answer! I will try that. It makes me feel better because I want to study there for a total of 9 months but the private language school can only give Visa invitation of 6 months max at a time. This us a good news as I do not want a gap in between for the last 3 months.
