About:Visa on Arrival

I will apply for a VOA flying from Brussels to Shenzhen but my return flight is via Beijing

I will arrive with a direct flight from Brussels to SZ but there is no direct return flight four days later, so I fly SZ - Beijing - Brussels (staying in the transit zone in Beijing). Can I use the VOA?

No, unfortunately not. You are allowed to do everything until the flight from SZ to Beijing regardless the fact that you plan to stay in the transit zone of Beijing airport. There is no other option, but after your visit to SZ is over to cross into Hong Kong and fly home from there.

Of course, you are allowed to do all of that, but you will have to obtain Chinese visa in advance. By having a Chinese visa you will not have to obtain Shenzhen VOA and also you will be able to travel from Shenzhen via Beijing to your home.
