travelling to Beijing on business for two days and then to Hong Kong return to London

Check your nationality field on your passport to see whether it says "British citizen". If it does then you are good to go providing that your route is London-Beijing-Hong Kong without other stops.

If it says "British overseas territories citizen" then you need to apply for a passport that describes you as a British citizen. Otherwise boarding would be refused by the airline.
