8-hr transit in Shanghai - need to collect checked bags?

I have an EU passport and will travel to Finland and then Portugal through Shanghai-Pudong with an 8hr transit. Do I need to collect my checked luggage and check it again? i will probably travel on code share with Juneyao airlines. Thanks

Many thanks for the help. I arrive in Shanghai going from Japan (New Chitose airport). But as you say I will have enough time to collect the luggage and check it again.

Whether you will have to collect your luggage depends solely on the airlines that you are flying with. In case of codeshare airlines, it is quite possible that your luggage will be checked all the way to your final destination. Anyway, you should not bother yourself too much because your layover in Shanghai is 8 hours and you will definitely manage to perform all the formalities including possible recheck of your luggage. By the way, you did not mention from where do you depart to Shanghai... Actually, exactly on that origin of your entire journey, you will be informed about this detail. In any case, just don't worry.

Helena, you didn't mention origin point of your journey. OK, I will assume that you are arriving from the third country (different than mainland China). Actually, it is very hard to predict whether you will have to collect your luggage and recheck it again after your arrival in Shanghai or your luggage will be checked all the way to your final destination. Having a codeshare companies on your itinerary may suggest that your luggage will be checked all the way to Finland, although it might not be the case. In any case, you will know this detail at the check-in in the origin point of your journey. There you will be told about this detail. Regardless of what you will be told, you have 8 hours of layover, so you will have quite enough time to perform all the formalities without any problem. In case that you will be required to collect your luggage and perform the check-in, you will be allowed to apply for 24 hours free entry permit that costs nothing and you will do what you are supposed to do. Please, just be relaxed and everything will be just fine.
