Since you have 8 hours layover in Guangzhou, you will be covered by 24 hour visa free transit and you do not need any kind of visa. However, if you want to exit the airport and to have a good rest at the hotel, you will do the following:
- You will fill out the arrival card that will be dispensed on board the plane before your landing in Guangzhou.
- Immediately upon landing in Guangzhou you will approach 24/144 hour visa free transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit. As you can see, there is no 24 hour travel pass, but there is no doubt that you are referring to temporary entry permit.
- This application is free of any charge. Here you will present your flight tickets and your free transit hotel confirmation. After a short check, airport officials will decide whether to grant a permit or not because under 8 hours of layover the permits are not granted and above 8 hours, usually do, especially if the layover is during the night hours. You will see what will happen.
- If your layover is granted, you will proceed to the immigration and toward the hotel for a good rest and if not, you will have to stay airside waiting for your onward flight.
You cannot do anything in advance, but only in the way as I have explained.
