About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

大問題 ?

Hello and Xi Xi in advance,

If I don't have the transfer visa form, the online one that has been mentioned here as rarely working, is that going to be an issue upon arrival at PVG?

I'm an American, probably stay for the 144 hours, and would have an onward ticket booked to a 3rd country.

Also, I don't know about other ground staff knowing the nuances of the China Transit Visa rules but I would be 99.9% sure in HKG, where I may be making a connection to PVG, that they would know.

If there is a fuss for some reason at the HKG airport, even with an onward ticket booked, do I just ask to sign a waiver stating I accept the consequences if not allowed entry?

I could get a China tourist visa in Hong Kong but that would take up to a week, besides Hong Kong being expensive, and I think the visa place is in Central/Wanchai area but not sure how fast they could process.

Thanks

Shawn

Shawn, there will be no problems at all regarding your question about the forms that have to be filled out as a part of application process for 144 hours visa free transit in Shanghai. Just be relaxed, have all your flight tickets and hotel booking for Shanghai area in hard copy and arrive with the mentioned documents at check-in in Hong Kong. They definitely know about all the details regarding visa free transit through mainland China, so they will not bother you a second more than they need. In other words, if your intention is to stay in Shanghai area just for six days and if you will be in possession of the ticket for the third country and that cannot be Hong Kong, you are friendly advised not to go after a visa because it does not have any real value in your case.

You will apply for 144 hours visa free transit at relevant counter at Shanghai airport and there you will find that famous blue form. You will also receive a yellow one in the plane during your flight to Shanghai. There are literally thousands of visa free transit users and they enjoy this offer by Chinese authorities not to bother themselves with visa issuing process. You will be one of them.

Thanks, the mention of getting a visa in HK was worst case scenario. So just need a passport valid more than 6 months, get the arrival/departure card, fill out the blue form, and smile. Should I show them a picture of the pretty lady I intend on seeing in SH to seal it? ;)

Thanks, I hope it wasnt' a redundant question. I have had issues with ground crew before and just want to avoid that.

Nice to hear about the pretty lady :))) By the way, just bring your documents in hard copy as I have mentioned, be relaxed and everything will be so easy. Enjoy your time in Shanghai.

Thanks, the bookings have been printed.

I will fly thru Bangkok instead and will take Thai Air. I know the Immigration officers in SH will know and just hope the BKK ground-crew doesn't say its up to me on what to do, lol.

Guess I missed the gray skies in SH after all,
