About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Visa needed for transit between Urumqi - Guangzhou?

Hi, we will be traveling from Vienna to Langkawi via Urumqui (technical stopover 1.30hr) and Guangzhou. We are Czech citizens. Are we eligible for TWOV? Thanks

Are you sure that is 24-Hour TWOV possible between international and domestic flight in Urumqui? All time spend in China is less than 24 hrs.
Thanks

That information is outdated. Timatic has been for the last 2 years clearly stated that passengers transiting through URC cannot get an entry permit on arrival and must hold a visa if the transit period is longer than 2 hours and/or are proceeding to a domestic airport. Therefore no visa will result in boarding refusal.
Also I personally would avoid Urumqi at all costs given the current situation.

You should be fine, but please, just calculate the number of hours from your scheduled landing in Urumqi until your scheduled departure from Guangzhou. If the number of hours is less than 24, then you are perfectly eligible for 24 hours visa free transit.

You have mentioned a technical stop in Urumqi that takes 1 hours and 30 minutes. Urumqi airport is specific because it allows just up to 2 hours TWOV, but they really do not care whether you are transfering from international to domestic or international to international flight. So, everything is according to the book, but it is up to you to risk a transfer that has such a tight time between two flights in the airport that has one of the most rigorous security checks in China.

Thanks John Doe. Petr, you will need a Chinese visa for your itinerary. I really didn't know these details regarding visa requiring connections between international and domestic (and vice versa) flights in Urumqi. Apologies.
