Day trip from Shenzhen to Hong Kong and then return

I am travelling to China from Europe with a single-entry visa for China and will be staying in Shenzhen. Is there any way in which I go to Hong Kong for a day and return to China on this visa?

There is no way for you to return to China on this visa after you have used said visa to enter China. Depending on where you are going next or how long you are staying you may be eligible for 72 or 144-hour transit in a number of regions, or a visa on arrival valid for Shenzhen only.

Also you may elect to apply for a new visa in HK but that will take a week.
