About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Transit using different flight companies

My flight route is Taipei-Shanghai-Helsinki, and I think that should qualify me for a transit visa. However, I bought the flight tickets to and from Shanghai at different times and will be using different flight companies for the trip. Would I still be able to get a transit visa even though the trip itself isn't really a transit flight?

The immigration staff only focuses on the immediate points before and after Shanghai, so if you fly nonstop from Taipei to Shanghai, and Shanghai to Helsinki, this should be a valid transit route. It doesn't matter if you bought tickets from different airlines. By the way, I think you may refer to the visa-free transit instead of a "transit visa". They are different things.
