About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hello, I am Malaysian and will be transiting Beijing with my Singaporean wife and son

Malaysian will not be eligible for visa free stay in Beijing right? Scheduled arrival Beijing (from Singapore) on 0700 30/Nov and depart Beijing to Rome, Italy on 2/Dec.

Meaning, Malaysian will need to apply standard visa as per normal? Thanks.

Correct. Your wife and son don't need a visa but you do.
