Can I get a multiple entry visa without a confirmed travel itinerary?

Hi, my name is Adam from Australia. I plan on being based in China for 5 1/2 months. My wife is a chinese citizen. I will be either Q1 or Q2 visa. My question is, can I get a multiple entry visa without confirmed travel details. We want to travel to other parts of Asia while there, but have not booked or planned those trips. Any advice would be helpful.

Don't think Australians are eligible for multiple-entry Q2 visas yet (although they may still give you one if you agree to pay the fee). Q2 applicants in US and Canada are not required to provide itineraries but not sure what the requirements in Oz look like. Go to the CVASC's website to see whether this is the case.
