About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Am I eligible for a 72hr visa free transit

Flying from Australia to Shanghai on the 24th. Staying in Shanghai 24th, 25th and boarding the ship midday 26th
Very confused 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes, you are eligible for 144 hours visa free transit, but you should have in mind that your ship should not have a port call in mainland China immediately after you have departed from Shanghai. In other words:

Australia - Shanghai - South Korea - fine
Australia - Shanghai - Japan - fine
Australia - Shanghai - Hong Kong - fine
Australia - Shanghai - Tianjin (to explore Beijing) - not allowed

So, if you are using a nonstop flight to reach Shanghai from Australia and if your first port call after Shanghai is not in mainland China, then you can travel visa free.
