Do we qualify for 144-hour free visa?

We are US citizens. The cruise on the Westerdam starts in Canada, first goes to stops in Japan and then goes to ports in China, including an overnight in a Beijing hotel through the cruise line, and ends in Shanghai. We are extending our trip to spend 5 days in Shanghai at a hotel and then fly back to the US. Does this qualify for the 144 hour visa free travel?
