LAX - Shanghai / Shanghai-Hong Kong-Dubai

I travel from Los Angeles (LAX) to Shanghai (PVG) on United Airlines and stay in Shanghai for approximately 48 hours. Then travel from Shanghai (PVG) to Dubai (DXB) with a 4-hour layover in Hong Kong (HKG) on Cathay. Does this qualify for 72-hour Free Transit Visa?

Of course it does. What makes you think it wouldn't?

Yes that is allowed. You can stay up to 144 hours in Shanghai

Thank you. My departure (transfer) flight from shanghai does not take me directly out of China but rather connects me through Hong Kong, so wanted to be sure this did not disqualify me from the 144-hour free transit visa.
