About:Visa on Arrival

HK day trip from Shenzhen whilst on 5 day VOA

I'm a British passport holder doing a 4 day stop-over in SZ. I'm planning on doing a day trip to HK. Does this mean that I have to get another VOA to get back into SZ or do I have to apply for a proper tourist visa instead? I'm quite confused!

Yes, you need to apply for another VOA when you come back to SZ.
