About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Are there reports of ticket agents denying you for their lack of knowledge?

I'm flying from Bangkok --> Shanghai --> USA, and in all aspects I qualify for the transit-free travel. I'm mostly worried that the ticket agent in Bangkok will be unfamiliar with visa-free transit travel, since I'm guessing they rarely encounter people traveling using this, and it doesn't apply to Thai people. Friends of mine have had issues before with ticket agents denying them a flight to China, and it turned out the agent was in the wrong. Have you heard of this happening to people trying to use visa-free travel? Is there some official website that states this policy, in case I need to show them? Thank you!

Transit without visa isn't rare. It's very common, and Thais qualify for 24 hours. There is no point showing them a website. Agents will use Timatic, and the phrase you must use is "transit without visa". The agent must put China as the transit, not the destination, to see the transit rules. Most reports of ignorant agents seem to emanate from USA and Emirates. You won't have any problem in Bangkok which has dozens of flights to China. If you're worried then get to the airport early, and escalate to a supervisor if you have a problem. The airport or the carrier will also be able to call on an expert in immigration rules if necessary (but it won't be necessary).
