To visa or to transit without a visa for a New Zealander

I'm a bit confused, does a New Zealand Passport holder have to apply (and pay eekk) for a (single or double entry) visa or is the holder eligible for the 24-hour transit without entry permit? We transit through Beijing (25/10) for 7 hours and then again (01/11) for 15 hours on the return trip home. Clarity appreciated.

If Beijing is the only transit city in mainland China, you can get 24h twov in both ways. No need to apply for visa.
