About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Do I qualify for a 72-hour visa-free transit? I am a U.S. citizen

flying to Hong Kong where we will stay for 6 days, then flying to Guilin but staying in nearby Guilin Shi, Xiangshan residential district for less than 72 hours, then flying out of Guilin to the U.S..

There are no nonstop flights from Guilin to the USA.
