In plain terms what is the Silk Road? Does the silk industry have a roll in it’s name?

The Silk Road was a road where Europe, Asia, and the Middle East traded for different things.
For example, India passed down the religion Buddhism to China, and from there on the Chinese practiced Buddhism.
