About:China Family Reunion Visa

Is it okay (legal?) to do an internship on a Q-1?

I have a grand mother of Chinese nationality and can get a Q. I am planning to use this visa to do an unpaid internship for 6 months in China. As far as I know there is no entry permit type for internship. Would doing an internship on this Q be deemed illegal?

Maybe you would be fine. You are advised to contact the visa office to confirm that beforehand.

The visa office says that I should have an X or work z, but from what I have read online about the new law, there is no specific part about internship. A lot of ambiguity. like one cannot do internship on an X2 but I know a lot of people who do that (without getting paid of course). I don't want an X2 as this would mean I pay for a course to get a visa. I can get a visa without the additional cost. Any suggestions/advice?

If so, maybe you can try to find an agency to help you apply the visa.

Working with Q1 is never legal but plenty of people do it anyway and enforcement is quite lax, especially if you are of Chinese descent.
