Can I use a transit visa to visit China for a meeting in Beijing?

Can I fly London-Beijing-London for a short meeting in Beijing on a 144hr free transit?

That's not transit so you are not eligible for visa-free transit or a transit visa, both of which require you to be in transit to a third country.
