Multiple entry with 24 hour or temporary stay permit?

I will be traveling from Bali, Indonesia to Guangzhou, and will be there for 22 hours before departing for Vancouver, Canada. Will I be allowed to leave Guangzhou for Hong Kong and return back to Guangzhou for my flight with either a 24 hour twov or temporary stay permit granted at the airport, or will I need to apply for a full visa before arriving?

You can do that ONLY when you will be going to HK and back by air. Land travels require a visa.
