About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Temporary permission to leave airport to stay at local hotel overnight

hi, I arrive in Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport on 5th Oct and my connecting flight is not until 6th Oct and so I would like to stay at a nearby hotel for a comfortable sleep before my next flight. I am a UK passport holder and my onward journey is to Sydney.

Yes, you can do that. Upon your landing in Guangzhou you will perform the following formalities in the exact order: 1. You will fill out arrival card and will ticket the box on it - transit. 2. Perform a fingerprinting at the automatic fingerprinting machine. 3. Approach 24/240 hour visa free transit counter where you will apply for a temporary entry permit by presenting your flight tickets, arrival card, fingerprinting receipt and a hotel booking. After a short check, you will receive a temporary entry permit and you will then proceed to the 4. immigration and from there to your hotel for a decent night rest. One detail here. If your total transit time is shorter than 24 hours, you will fly under 24 hour visa free transit scheme and if it is longer than 24 hours, it will be a 240 hour visa free transit scheme. Have a nice rest in Guangzhou.
