About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Flight from Seattle - Pek - Pvg - Kuala Lumper

I have a US passport and I'm Traveling to Malaysia so I booked a flight from Seattle - Pek - Pvg - Kuala Lumper.
My layover in Pek airport is 23.5 hours and then I fly from Pek to Pvg and the layover in Pvg is 10 hours until my flight to Kuala lumper.
Do I need a Chinese entry permit? And when I arrive to Pek airport can I go out of the airport to sight seeing the city? and can I will when I arrive to Pvg airport exit the airport to sight seeing Shanghai city ?
Thanks

Thanks for the info .
So now I changed my flight to Lax-Pvg-kul
I have now only one layover in Pvg airport for 16 hours. Do I need a visa?
And if I don’t need a visa , can I leave the airport to see shanghai city ?
Thanks
