About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

10 hour transit in Guangzhou

Hi, can anyone advise if i need a visa while on a transit i Guangzhou. I'm a Malaysian living in New Zealand. I'm planning to take China Southern Airlines from Auckland which i have 10 hours transit time in Guangzhou before continuing on to Kuala Lumpur. I'm planning to visit Goungzhou city with the 10 hours transit time. Reading the website, i'm not entited to the 72-hours visa free transit. Am i correct that i have to apply the L-visa? Have anyone done this before?

If you are in transit to a third country you need the G visa instead of the L, although they cost the same. Keep in mind that the immigration officer in charge can grant you entry into the country at their discretion but some places like Shanghai require you to hold a hotel booking confirmation.
