You'll need a visa if you are more than 24 hours in China (from time of arrival in first city to time of departure from last city).

Hi, Thank you, Johann.
As estimated, total time stay in China is around 14 hours (< 24 hours). However, in case I'm eligible a 24h free transit, may I leave the transit area and have a several hour city tour in Xiamen before the next flight? (I'll arrive to Xiamen at 12pm, and the 2nd flight from Xiamen (via Qingdao) to Los Angeles will take off at 18pm.)
