Tourist L visa to S1

Hi there, is it possible to change my visa from a L to S1 in china without going back to my home country? My wife is enrolling to a university in Shanghai with my 3yo son with her atm in Shanghai. She is Mongolian and I am Indonesian. Since it will take around 2 or 3 weeks or so for her to get the residence permit and send a copy to me so that I can apply a S1 form Indonesia. The problem is I would like to apply a L tourist from here in Indonesia and then change my L to a S1 in shanghai. Is that possible since I will need to accompany my son while my wife is on school.

It's possible for you to change the L into S1 type at the exit and entry administration of the local PSB within China. If you are worried, you can contact the visa office to inquire the details.
