About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Visa required or is the 72hr transit ok

I am from the US and will be traveling to China after a trip to the Philippines. I will arrive in Hong Kong on a Sunday, and plan to leave for Beijing on Tuesday and return the next day. My flight out of Hong Kong leaves Wednesday evening to Vietnam.
Can you please tell me if I am eligible for the transit visa?

If you fly Hong Kong-Beijing-Hong Kong then you need a Chinese visa. You're visiting China, you're not in transit.
