About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Can I use the 72 hr visa free in the following case?

I would like to arrive to Beijing from Hong Kong and two days later go to Katmandhu. My problem is that to go to Katmandu I have to connect either via Hong Kong or via Guangzhou. Although I'll be only in transit in either Hong Kong or Guangzhou will these arrangements meet the 72 hr free transit conditions?

Neither will work. Since you arrive in China from Hong Kong, your next landing cannot be in Hong Kong. Guangzhou cannot be your next landing either as 2 mainland landings limits to 24 hour direct transit. I suggest not flying to Beijing.

No. Hong Kong-Beijing-Hong Kong is not a transit and therefore obviously does not qualify for transit without visa. Hong-Beijing-Guangzhou-Kathmandhu is limited to to 24 hours transit without visa because of the two stops in China.
