Can I split 144 hours over two periods

My flights are: United States -> Beijing -> Seoul -> Beijing -> United States. Can I use the 144 hour free transit period by splitting it out over my two stops in Beijing? So, can I use 4 days the first time I stop through Beijing and 2 days the second time I stop through Beijing? Or does it all need to be used at one time?

The 144-hr period resets everytime you leave the country, so you will be given two 144-hr permits regardless of how long you are actually staying (as long as it's over 24 hours).
